This lesson considers the various ways we use water everyday and asks students to estimate how many litres of water they use per day.
The independent task links to a video clip on Youtube from Netflix called “Explained: World’s Water Crisis” and it lasts approximately 18 minutes. The video explores the cities of Cape Town and Mexico City to see the consequences of water scarcity and references protests in Mexicali.
To help foster engagement with the video, there is a student worksheet with a series of questions that can be found here. Alongside this worksheet, is a detailed answer sheet to ensure you have the specific information needed to encourage further discussion and understanding. This can be found here.
The follow-up activities ask students to create a poster encouraging others to take water scarcity more seriously. There is a list of criteria that you could reference to ensure it doesn’t just become a colouring exercise and there is also a list of websites to help encourage further research, if applicable.
This is one of many lessons available in the GTB vault. This screenshot shows a list of what is currently there, with new lesson resources linked to documentaries added every month. Those highlighted are the ones just recently added.
