For those of you who are new to the Geography Teacher Box, each quarter I donate a portion of the profits generated from the GTB vault to a sustainable project designed to prevent carbon emissions, while also helping to support vulnerable communities and protecting habitats.
So far we have supported projects providing clean water for families in Laos, a 20MW biomass project in rural India, improved cookstoves in Peru and the Betulia energy and biodiversity restoration project in Honduras.
This month I have chosen to support the Mozambique safe water project, through Gold Standard. It reduces the risk of water borne illnesses and the need to boil water for purification, which exposes households to hazardous air pollution. This saves thousands of tonnes of firewood per year and reduces CO2 emissions.
More info about the project can be found by following this link.
It's important to me, and probably to you as fellow Geography teachers, that the projects supported are worthwhile and ultimately sustainable. I wanted to be able to support more than just a plant a tree initiative, so i'm please to say that this project is helping to address the following four SDGs:
I think it is also important to note that our contribution represents 1 tonne of CO2 prevented from entering the atmosphere with verified benefits to local communities and ecosystems:
So thank you to my members once again for your support of the GTB vault and enabling projects like this to be given a helping hand. You really are a wonderful community and I’m extremely grateful.
PS - I love nothing more than supporting Geography teachers as we are a pretty awesome bunch. So here are five ways that I can help you….
