We’ve got the annual year 9 GCSE options evening coming up this week so we’re busy thinking about what to include and tidying up displays. I’ve updated my presentation on “why choose Geography”, which you are welcome to grab via this link. It’s probably suitable for most GCSE specs and it will be easy to add your own spin on it e.g one of the slides mentions required fieldwork so this would be a great opportunity to talk about trips planned or what you’ve done with the current GCSE groups.
I also have some other ideas related to promoting Geography including possible video clips to share on this previous blog post.
There’s been a lot of coverage in the media about this disaster and some of you may also have students from this region. At my school they have done a whole school fundraiser and the UN Club has also organised a bake sale. If you wish to cover the earthquake in your lessons though, there is a great powerpoint that has been produced by GEOnline which you can find here, with activities focused on the causes, impacts and responses.
If you are also looking to update displays or provide posters for your upcoming options evening, Tutor2U have a great array of colourful job profiles linked to Geography which you can get for free here and print your own set, or you can order them ready printed on A2 size here for £25.
Short and sweet this week ( a bit like me, well at least the short bit anyway!). Have a fantastic day!
I love nothing more than supporting Geography teachers as we are a pretty awesome bunch.
So here are five ways that I might be able to help you….
